Wheel Hoe Garden Cultivator

The HOSS Wheel Hoe is a reproduction of the famous Planet Junior cultivator. From 1910 and into the early 50s the wheel cultivator became the mainstay of every homestead and virtually every homestead had a garden in order to survive. The garden was a family’s only source of fresh produce and the crops that could be preserved and stored over the winter, until the next planting season could begin. Fresh produce and canned goods were just not available in the small country and general stores.  Prior to the introduction of the wheel cultivator the standard tool for weeding gardens was a hand held garden hoe, or the back breaking job of hand pulling of the weeds.  When Planet Junior cultivators were introduced they became king of the garden. The larger gardeners had a wheel hoe, while large commercial growers used several wheel hoe’s working in tandem by workers cultivating over large fields.
 
Later into the 1950's gardening no longer was the matter of family survival. Large industrial farms began growing vegetables and tractor mounted cultivators, took the place of tedious weeding between the rows. As the industrial farming continued to grow herbicides began replacing the need to cultivate routinely. Then the younger generations as they grew older through the 60s and 70s mostly forgot that vegetables even started in a garden. Those that kept gardening soon discovered gas powered tillers and small garden tractor mounted implements.  Only a few kept manufacturing wheel cultivators, mostly those were the difficult to maneuver high wheel cultivators.  Then as the import age started overtaking the American made products, the cheaper versions began entering the market place and then the once famous wheel hoe became forgotten.

Then two gardeners who were feed up with the cheap imported garden tools decided to duplicate and reintroduce the Planet Junior wheel cultivator.  Sparing no quality they wanted to duplicate the Planet Junior Wheel Hoe as it was originally made down to every detail so even the new parts would still fit the original now antique Planet Junior and a rival Red Pig Wheel Hoe.  This was the beginning of HOSS Professional Garden Tools

Standard Wheel Hoe

Our Standard Wheel Hoe is the most popular of all wheel hoes because it is light and easy to handle and has the most needed equipment. It is inexpensive and yet is a complete gardening outfit. It is light enough for a girl or woman to handle, yet strong and sturdy enough for any job.  Amateur gardeners like it because it saves them so much time and makes their gardening so easy. Professionals like it because it does the most precise work, and will stand constant use through many sessions.  The Standard Wheel Hoe includes only the most frequently used attachments, hoes, cultivator teeth, and plow, which are all oil-tempered, and hardened in an electric furnace to make them work better and wear longer.

The hoes are used for weeding, mulching and shallow cultivation. They are specially designed with a high shield to permit close work without danger to the crop. The cultivator teeth or “duckfeet” are for general cultivation. They have a narrow neck with a wide head for turning over the weeds. The plow is rugged enough to do real plowing or furrowing.

The Standard Wheel Hoe is completely adjustable to suit the conditions and the operator, and all the adjustments are quickly and easily made. Everything but the handles is steel—light and unbreakable. The handles are adjustable and are Amish Crafted selected Red Oak, making them very strong.

Wheel hoes are being used extensively by leading vegetable growers as they are able to plant in much narrower rows.  Planet Jr. Wheel hoes are scientifically designed by practical men to do just the proper kind of work. The frames and wheel arms are pressed steel. The wheel is steel with steel spokes. The hoes and other working parts are oil tempered and hardened so they do not wear out. This construction insures service and durability far beyond the dollars and cents cost.

A wide range of adjustment is provided to take care of different width rows and different conditions and also to permit the use of the various attachments. The handles can be adjusted for height to suit the operator.

The Standard Wheel Hoe is shipped with three (3) cultivator teeth.

You may select either the steam bent handles or pistol grip handles, both options are the same price.

Plow attachments are powder coated & built to last. Used in a pair they can be positioned to be used as a hiller or as a furrower
