Replica Vendor- Market-Peddler- Cart Wheels & Plans
The CCW Market Cart plans and wheels allow you to build a miniature, old-fashioned market cart for ornamental yard displays or functional store displays. Use reclaimed lumber or new lumber. The cart in the pictures was constructed using treated lumber for outdoor use.
Market carts were popular at the turn of the century, as street vendors loaded their wares to sell along city streets. Today, they are still popular for merchandise and yard displays.
Description / Replica Vendor- Market-Peddler- Cart Wheels & Plans
The kit includes plans, metal wheels, and axles to build a 48” long x 24” wide x 25” tall replica of an old-fashioned vendor market cart.
This is not a complete hardware kit. You will need to purchase some of the flat stock listed in the material to bend in a vise and drill for the metal brackets. You get two 24” metal twelve-spoke wheels, two-axle stubs, cotter keys and washers, and the plans. You will need to purchase the lumber, bolts, nuts, screws, and 1/8” x 1” x 36” flat steel stock to make the optional tongue leg and tailgate brackets. The plans include a basic material list. The wheels and axles ship unpainted raw metal, so that you have the option of allowing them to weather with the wood naturally or paint them with a painted wagon.
Add an optional rubber tire coating to the wheel rims. The rubber option is a game-changer for building display carts that will be rolled out and in for display on concrete and other floor surfaces, reducing noise and the risk of marring floors. (This will be a thin rubber coating and not a thick rubber tire. )
Unique bolt-on axle stubs allow the wagon to be made to any width. Some bending and drilling of metal strips will be required for the brackets. Some basic woodworking tools and skills will be needed to interpret the plans and transfer measurements to build your market cart.
Plans provide two old-fashioned tailgate options: either a tie-rod or a side-bracket support. The plans include an option to add a tongue-support leg to keep the cart level, or leave it off to allow the cart to tilt forward to better display items.
Wagon gear assembles just like an old-fashioned market cart, and the wagon box fits on top. Be as creative as you want by adding a canvas cover or display racks.
Please note: While the wheels are sturdy, they are not recommended for carrying passengers. They are recommended for ornamental purposes and for use on hand push cultivators and other implements.
The last picture shows a customer-built cart using our plans and kit for his jewelry business. He modified the dimensions to accommodate a removable top with two foldout wings.
The hardware is made in a small one-man shop. Please allow 4-6 weeks for shipping.
